The American tote bag had humble beginnings as a working man's tool, built to unload ice and coal barges and tough enough to hold up under the daily rigors of hard labor. The Barge Tote honors that legacy with the same over-constructed toughness and quality in mind.

Starting with a foundation of vintage 18oz wax-treated cotton duck, we added a double canvas bottom, 4-layer thick handles, and riveted stress points to create a bag that would make turn-of-the-century canvas craftsmen proud. The wax treatment provides natural water repellency, while the slip side pocket keeps essentials close at hand. Built for professional use or everyday adventure, the Barge Tote is as hardworking as the tradition it was born from.

Available in two sizes, this American-made tote is crafted in our North Carolina workshop with heavy nylon thread stitching and time-tested construction methods built to last for years to come.

Caring for Martexin™ Original Wax Duck Canvas:

Martexin Original Wax Duck Canvas is a highly specialized textile product that precludes normal cleaning. Just as you wouldn't wash a leather product, such as shoes, gloves, or jackets, you shouldn't machine wash or dry clean your wax duck product. Wax fabrics have been successfully used for many years without washing.

  • Clean periodically with a hose and damp cloth
  • Do not machine wash or dry clean
  • Do not iron or apply heat
  • Allow to air dry naturally if wet
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat
  • Wax finish will develop character and patina with use
